Privacy & cookies
We keep as little about you as we can, and only for as long as we need it. This policy explains what asklor! collects and why, in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).
Who we are
asklor! (Just Ask Lor) is operated by Kri8tion Technology, Singapore. Our Data Protection Officer can be reached at support@doublehuat.com.
An account is optional
You can use asklor! without an account. Guests can ask 5 questions. To keep asking, you can create a free account with just your email address. The bus, Track and Walk tools work without an account.
What we collect and why
- Your account (if you create one). Your email address, the date you joined, when you last signed in, and that you confirmed you are 13 or older and agreed to our Terms (and which version). We use your email only to send sign-in codes and important notices about your account. We do not use passwords.
- Sign-in records. To keep accounts safe, we record sign-in events (for example, a code sent, a wrong code, a sign-in) with a scrambled form of your email and IP address that cannot be read back. Sign-in codes are stored scrambled and expire after 10 minutes.
- Your questions. We use the text you type to answer you. Questions may be kept without any link to you, to improve our answers. Even when you are signed in, your questions are not linked to your account. Please do not type personal details such as your NRIC number, phone number or address unless the question needs a place.
- Technical information. Like most websites, our server records your IP address, the time and the page requested. We use this to keep the service secure, stop abuse and apply fair-use limits. For the guest question limit we use a random guest code and a shortened (masked) IP address.
- Track Bus ride. Your location is worked out on your phone and is not sent to us. To draw the route we receive only the bus number you choose. If you type where you are going, we receive that place and up to 3 bus stop numbers to work out the walking distance.
- Walk and journey tools (only if you allow location). These use your device location or the place you type, only to work out your route. Start and end points are stored briefly to speed up repeat routes and are deleted automatically within 24 hours.
- Bus arrival alerts. If you turn on an alert, we keep your browser's notification address with the bus stop and service you chose. Finished alerts are deleted automatically after 7 days.
- Shared journeys. If you share a journey, we keep the place names and times in the link until it expires, then delete them.
Who else handles your information
We do not sell your information. We pass on only what is needed:
- Anthropic (United States): our AI provider, which receives the text of your question to help us understand it.
- Resend (United States): sends our sign-in code emails, so it receives your email address and the email we send you.
- Google reCAPTCHA: checks that sign-in requests come from a person, not a bot. It receives information about your device and browser. The Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
- OneMap (Singapore Land Authority): receives place names and route points to find places and routes, and provides map images.
- Map images: when a map loads, the map provider (OneMap, and OpenStreetMap on some maps) receives your IP address, as with any website image.
- LTA DataMall and NEA: receive bus stop codes and general weather requests, with no personal details.
- Google AdSense: when advertising is shown (see below).
Where information goes outside Singapore, we choose providers that protect it to a standard comparable to the PDPA.
Cookies and advertising
asklor! uses a small number of essential cookies to keep the site secure and working. They do not track you across other websites:
- Sign-in cookie: keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Signing out removes it.
- Guest code: a random code used for the guest question limit. It lasts up to 1 year.
- Security cookie: protects forms against misuse. It lasts only for your visit.
Some tools also save small preferences on your device only (for example, favourite buses or a bus ride in progress). These stay on your device and are not sent to us.
asklor! may show advertising provided by Google AdSense. When it does:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Essential features, such as signing in, may not work without them.
How long we keep it
- Your account: until you delete it.
- Sign-in codes: 10 minutes. Sign-in sessions: up to 30 days, or until you sign out.
- Sign-in security records: 90 days.
- Route start and end points: up to 24 hours.
- Finished bus alerts: 7 days. Shared journeys: until the link expires.
- Questions without any link to you: as long as they help improve answers.
- Server security records: only as long as needed for security and fair use.
Your rights
You can delete your account at any time from your Account page. This removes your account and signs you out everywhere.
Under the PDPA you may also ask to see the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw consent for its use. Email support@doublehuat.com. We will reply as soon as reasonably possible, normally within 30 days. If you contact us from the email address on your account, it helps us find your records.
Children
asklor! is a general-audience service and is not directed at children under 13. You must be 13 or older to create an account.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change. The date below shows the latest version. If a change affects account holders, we will ask you to agree again the next time you sign in.
